Daily Time in His Word

Christ once spoke the words, ““It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’” Luke 4:4 No matter what Satan tries to feed you, never forget the Word. And here lies another reason to enter into God’s word each day, as you can not remember something you’ve never read. To recognize a lie, you must first know the truth. “…if it were possible, they shall deceive even the elect.” Matthew 24:24

You can not survive this sinful world without the word of God! You can not perform your duties as head of the house (Ephesians 5:22-23) successfully with out the wisdom and understanding of God. “Be not wise in thine own eyes…” Proverbs 3:7

You can start with any number of books to help guide your time with God [See Our List of Devotional Resources], or you could (and perhaps should) open the pages of your Bible and start directly from that. If you haven’t done so in awhile (or perhaps for the first time) starting with a read through of the gospels, Matthew and John are a fantastic place to start receiving your daily blessing (bread) of God’s word.

Daily Time in Prayer

The subject of prayer is far reaching and is why we will only be highlighting certain Biblical points for the moment. For a deeper look at prayer we invite you to visit our Men of Prayer Resource.

Our prayer life is an intricate part of our devotional life, of our personal relationship with our Creator and Savior. Although there are countless reasons for and examples of prayer, we will be looking at only two aspects here; being fed and receiving Heavenly guidance.

Just as we require our daily consumption of the word of God, the same goes for our time spent in direct communication with the Holy Spirit. We can never expect to be true men of God, full of His strength and glory if we do not communion with Him.

Even Christ took regular time away from His work, away from His disciples to pray and be with His Heavenly Father. He would get up before sunrise (Mark 1:35) to pray or He would forgo sleep, spending the night prayer (Luke 6:12). He didn’t let the importance of His work get in the way of His relationship with His Father. And if Christ, the Son of God, needed regular time in prayer, how much more do we as sinful beings?
