When Adam and Eve went against God’s commandments, man suffered a fall that separated us from the physical presence of our Creator. We were no longer blessed with evening walks with our God (Genesis 2:23). Yet our loving LORD did not cut us off completely from His guidance and presence. He did not leave us to fight the good fight on our own.
Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Israel, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, Gideon, Phinehas, Samuel, David, Solomon, Micaiah, Jehu, Job, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Amos, Zechariah; all have record words spoken to them by our Heavenly Father. We see example after example of men of God hearing from our LORD; even Cain heard from the Lord shortly after killing his brother Abel (Genesis 4:9), and He also spoke to the children of Israel as a body (Judges 10:11).
Not all men have been destined to fill the “shoes” of Moses, David, or Paul; at least not in the grand scale in which they served our God. However, some have been called to be the Moses of their family, leading them out of the wilderness to the promise land (1 Corinthians 7:13). All have been called to be the David of our house, serving as the head of our family as Christ is the head of the church (Ephesians 5:23). And some will serve God in the honor of Paul, once prosecuting the Lord within our homes, and now serving Him there (Acts 9:1-6, 20-21).
Can we successfully take to these tasks with our own wisdom, understanding, and strength? As men of Christ, God has placed a special order of work in each of our hands, one in which God had in mind as He knitted each of in our mother’s womb. And praise the Lord, just as God filled Bezaleel with the Holy Spirit’s wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and all manner of workmanship to complete the work laid before him (Exodus 31:2-5), our Heavenly Father is waiting to do the same for each of us.
Does God speak to us as He did in the past, in audible form? Perhaps to some He does, however the majority of us probably haven’t experienced such a blessing. Maybe the years of sin have scarred us to the extent in which we are deaf to His audible voice in which He once spoke. Perhaps just as we can no longer come face to face with Him in our sinful state (Exodus 33:20).
But no matter the amount of sinful scarring that may take place, either personally or for mankind as a whole, God will never shut down the line of communication He opened so many thousands of years ago. Each of us has a direct line to our Creator and Caretaker.
It is through prayer in which we speak with our God today. It is through prayer in which we call out to Him in cries of thanksgiving, for forgiveness, intercession, and petitions. It is through prayer in which we can, if we choose, receive God’s grace, wisdom, strength, and understanding.
The question each of us must ask ourselves, “Will I take advantage of that blessing?” Will you come away from the world, from the office, from the sports, from your service to Him to reach out to the One who can give exactly what you need to stand strong as the man He created you to be?
Is there anything that could be preventing you from entering into that time of prayer in which God is waiting to speak to you? We pray that your time within our Men of Prayer section will not only be a blessing to you, but the same for your family and all those your life touches from day to day.
